AN INTERVIEW WITH OGRE HOMBRE

When did you get your NES?

On my birthday back in '89 or '90.  My parents took me all over the Bronx to find a place that sold it at a good price, visiting quite a few shady places along the way I might add. We wound up at Kiddie City and I picked it up along with Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Turtles. I was soooo happy, and the games were great! Hell, to this day those are some of the greatest games ever. I could watch that begining sequence of Ninja Gaiden forever... but I digress

How old are you now?

I am a ripe and elderly21 year old now, on my way out of college and into the "real world."  I might stetch my education out a bit more and go to Grad School though.

When did you open your site?

Hmmm... Late '96 or early '97. It was right in the middle of High School though, when I was bored, lonely and hated everyone... as all adolesents to, I suppose. It got me through.

When and why did you close your site?

I never really "closed" it. I just stopped updating it. I always left the door open to come back. College however, takes up a great chunk of ones time. Having a real life does that too ;) In the time since I "closed" my site, I've become an Emergency Medical Technician, a computer science teacher to 7th & 8th graders, a computer technician, a writer, as well as juggling a B.A. in Economics with a B.A. in English -- not to mention a wonderful beautiful girlfriend. I've been busy!

Have you stopped playing NES?

No way! I was just playing Kid Icarus the other day (and cursing it for being horrible and completely inferior to Metroid

Your fights are probably your best section, were your fights the first?

I'm still an artist, and computer art programs facinated me in High School. One day I just got the idea to do stupid things with NES characters, and eventually the fights came about. I've since been ripped off by MTV (Celebrity Death Matches, etc.) but none so much as you! Your fights section has to be the most blatant rip-off of mine... ever. But am I angry? We'll see ;)

Tell the truth, do you think my site totally sucks?

Hmmm... I was surprised to see I actually liked the layout, and the color scheme. It's pleasing to the eye, but really now, another "NES Fights?" This is the type of unoriginality I rallied against when I was at the top of my form in the NES community.

Would you consider updating again

Keep your eyes open... you never know where I might show up... or where I've already set up shop. ;)

Would you like to say anything else?

Just that I'm always surprised when I get a stray E-mail about my old NES site. It seems I have a bit of a cult following and that's pretty cool.  When I ran the site I was always a little bitter I never got the recognition the other "big boys" got (although I always denied it... even to myself), but I'm happy the way things turned out. Just remember, if you think you can do better, just do it. It's never that hard. Also, creating and maintaining that site helped me through a lot of the usual teenage angst, and I love it and my Nintendo very dearly. I hope, in someway, that helps someone else out there. College life is great, kids. The real world is great. High school is not the real world. I'm rambling, I know, but out there, someone eading this, needs to hear that
